This self-help program has been specifically designed for young people who are currently DEpressed and drink ALcohol to cope. The DEAL project will help you to identify the areas of your life that are upsetting and provide you with the skills to deal with them, in healthier ways.

If you are having trouble, it is important to know that you are not alone one in four young people experience a mental disorder in any 12-month period. Perhaps you don't have a current disorder, but you might be worried you are heading down a bad road. This program might also be beneficial to you.

You may feel you don't want to change your drinking patterns. This is completely up to you. Nevertheless, it might help to understand how your alcohol use and mood are linked.

It wouldn't surprise you to know that in the short-term alcohol can lift your mood, and help you relax but what you might not know is that once these short-term effects wear off, alcohol actually strengthens feelings of depression and anxiety and can make you feel worse. This effect is not immediate or intoxicating like the short-term effects, so we often put it down to all sorts of other things and don't even realise the role alcohol plays.

This program is all about helping you find other ways to deal with the stresses of life. However you choose to use it, we hope this program can be helpful.
